How to Clean Suede Shoes and Boots

In this article, we discuss how to effectively clean suede shoes and boots. You can clean suede shoes using either the dry or wet method. With the dry method, you clean your suede shoes with a suede eraser such as Saphir Médaille d'Or Gommadin, also known as a suede stone, and suede brushes. A suede stone effectively absorbs dirt and grease, and you can then brush off the saturated sand left on the shoe with a suede brush. Afterwards, you can spray the shoes to protect them against dirt and rain.

Washing Suede Shoes

The wet method focuses on washing your suede shoes. You might wonder: Can you wash suede? Yes, you can! Provided you use clean water and the right products. Personally, we achieve the best results by washing suede. A good product to wash your suede shoes and boots with is Saphir Médaille d'Or Omninettoyant. This special suede shampoo thoroughly cleans the shoes and evens out the color. After washing your suede shoes, rinse them off and let them dry completely (at room temperature). With grease stains, some of the stain may still be visible after washing. In that case, you can apply the dry method again by treating your suede shoes with a suede eraser like Saphir Médaille d'Or Gommadin.

Protecting Suede Shoes

Extra tip! Spray your shoes after cleaning to protect them against moisture and dirt. A good natural protective spray is Saphir Médaille d'Or natural protector spray. In our opinion, this is the best protective spray for suede and nubuck.
