How to use

Shaving creams are mainly used by wet shavers and shaving enthusiasts. According to them, a good shaving cream is an indispensable part of their shaving routine. In this shaving guide, we describe three different ways to use shaving cream.

1. By hand
2. With a brush
3. With a brush and shaving bowl

We start with the most basic tip we can give when using shaving creams. With shaving creams, you only need a fraction of the amount per shave that you would normally use with a shaving cream or shaving gel. As a matter of principle, many people use too much shaving cream and too little water, which results in a dry lather and harms the shave.

By hand
A major advantage of shaving cream is that it can be applied directly to the face by hand. Although this is not the best way, it is extremely useful when you are travelling and do not want to take a shaving brush with you. Start by moistening the face with warm water. Take an almond-sized amount of shaving cream and spread it over both cheeks. Then moisten the hand again and massage the shaving cream onto the face in small circular movements. Continue this until the entire face is covered with an even layer of shaving cream.

With a brush
Start by soaking the shaving brush in warm water. Then moisten the face briefly with warm water. Remove the shaving brush from the water and shake it lightly. Then lightly squeeze the brush to take plenty of water from the brush. Then take an almond-sized amount of shaving cream and lightly press it into the bristles of the brush. Then apply the shaving cream by moving the brush over the face in small rounder movements. You can test if you used enough water to make your foam. You do this by holding the brush against the foamed part of the face and then taking it off again. If the brush sticks slightly, the foam is too thick and you used too little water. You can add water by dripping water on the brush and running it over the face again.

With a brush and shaving bowl
We start in the same way without a shaving bowl. But instead of applying the shaving cream directly to the face, we are going to make a nice lather in the shaving bowl. This way you get visual feedback about whether you have created the foam correctly and with enough water. Go with small circular movements over the bottom of the shaving bowl until a nice thick foam is created. Is this too thick? Drop in some water and continue with your lather. When the foam is to your liking, it can be applied to the face. Do this until the entire face is covered with a nice even layer of shaving cream.
